The Brian Bedell 2-Young Foundation to Hold Northern Virginia Wiffle® Ball World Series

Vienna, VA (PRWEB) July 25, 2007 -- The Brian Bedell 2-Young Foundation announced today that it is holding the 12th Annual Northern Virginia Wiffle® Ball World Series on Saturday, August 11th at Waters Field in Vienna, Va. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Brian Bedell 2-Young Foundation supporting brain cancer research.

Gates will open to the public at 8:30 a.m. Opening Ceremonies kick off at 9:05 a.m. and features Congressman Tom Davis, State Senator Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, Vienna Mayor Jane Seeman, Delegate Steve Shannon, and the Vienna Town Council, including a "VIP Home Run Derby" and Honorary First Pitch. More than 60 teams will compete in an all-day tournament beginning at 10 a.m., with the finals beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $5; children seven and under are free.

There will be a special tournament for kids 12 years old and under. The informal tournament will start at 1 p.m. Teams can register the day of the event by noon. The first 16 teams to register can participate.

In addition to the wiffle® ball tournament, there will be fun-filled events for the whole family. There will be a raffle and a silent auction where spectators can bid on items such as autographed sports memorabilia, tickets to the Redskins and Nationals games, travel getaways, and much more. There will also be plenty of activities for kids including moon bounces, carnival games, face painting and clowns.

The Brian Bedell 2-Young Foundation was able to raise more than $40,000 during last year's event, donating the proceeds to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University. To date, the foundation has donated over $100,000 to Duke, where Brian received his treatments for almost two years.

"Vienna is proud to host such a worthy event as the Northern Virginia Wiffle® Ball World Series to benefit The Brian Bedell 2-Young Foundation. We believe this is a start of a great tradition that the Vienna community will continue to embrace for many years to come," said Vienna Mayor Jane Seeman.

"The Town of Vienna has welcomed this event with open arms," said Mike Ryan, commissioner of the Northern Virginia Wiffle® Ball World Series. "We are thrilled to be able to hold this event again in Brian's home town. Not only will we raise money to fight brain cancer, but also we will have a fun-filled day full of love and support for Brian and those afflicted with brain cancer."

A native of Vienna, Brian was diagnosed with a grade IV glioblastoma brain tumor on Sept. 8, 2003. After a brave battle against the cancer that included four craniotomies, radiation, and participation in experimental trials at The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, Brian peacefully passed away on May 23, 2005 surrounded by his loving wife, Amy, and his family.

Brain cancer research is under funded and the cure rate is significantly lower than that of many other types of cancer. Brian, Amy and his sister Kristin established The Brian Bedell 2-Young Foundation in 2004 to help change this. The mission of the foundation is to help find a cure for brain cancer. The Brian Bedell 2-Young Foundation is a positive force for other patients dealing with a brain tumor diagnosis and strives to help other patients and their families deal with this formidable opponent.
